THE OCEAN &
ITS ONE-BREATH WONDER
The Ocean presents differently when you arrive quietly. Freediving is about breath, calm, and moving gently enough that the underwater world forgets you’re a visitor.

No Tank, No Problem
Freediving isn’t loud or dramatic; it’s subtle, calm, and a little addictive. The SSI Basic Freediver course teaches you the foundations of freediving – you’ll learn breathing and relaxation techniques, equalization, and efficient movement underwater, with your instructor guiding you throughout. Training moves from confined water into the open Ocean, where every descent feels quieter and more personal than the last.
Doing this on a small island changes the experience in the best way. By the end, it’s not just about learning to freedive; it’s about feeling more at ease in the water, and a little more connected to the world around you.

Do I need to be a certified Scuba Diver to sign up for any freediving course?
- No, it’s not a prerequisite.
- Freediving and Scuba Diving are two different disciplines and don’t depend on each other.
- Think of it as a different way of being underwater: quieter, slower, and refreshingly gear-light.
Will I be taught any breathing exercises before the training?
- Yes, absolutely.
- Breathing is at the heart of freediving, and it’s built right into the course.
- And worry not, you’ll be guided through every second of it.
As a certified Basic Freediver, can I freedive in the open Ocean?
- Not on your own just yet.
- You can snorkel freely and freedive with an instructor as a certified Basic Freediver.
- Ocean freediving with a buddy can be done only after the full Freediver certification.
What is the difference between the Pool Freediver and the Basic Freediver programs?
- Pool Freediver is exactly what it sounds like: a pool-based introduction to Freediving. You learn the basics of apnea and movement on one-breath in a controlled & shallow environment.
- Basic Freediver builds on that by adding the challenge of the open Ocean. You refine technique, build on comfort levels, and start training like a freediver.
- If Pool Freediver is about learning the language, Basic Freediver is about starting to make full sentences underwater.
What do I pack for a dive trip?
- Bring the basics: a quick-dry towel, sun-protective clothing, sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle.
- Missed the basics? We have a DIVEShop – our retail store – which takes care of most diving essentials
- As for sunscreen, use reef-safe ones, BUT they aren’t exactly diver-friendly. Ask a diver friend why. Or, us 🙂
Where do I access my course material?
- On the SSI App – your forever dive buddy. Available on Android & iOS. Phones & tablets. Or even a good ol’ browser.
- Theory, logs, certifications cards… this is your diver flex app, essentially!
