Diving is a buddy sport. What if something goes wrong with your buddy underwater? If that question caused you distress, this course helps you notice signs sooner, think clearer, and take charge when it matters most.
Beyond The Basics
Most dives are easy – calm descents, slow fin kicks, long quiet minutes watching the reef. But every diver knows that the ocean, like life, occasionally throws in surprises.
This course is built for exactly those moments. Over three days, you learn to recognise stress early, manage yourself first, and then assist others calmly and effectively. You’ll practise assisting tired divers, handling panic at the surface, dealing with equipment failure, and working through realistic rescue scenarios.
The Ocean doesn’t change during this course. But the way you notice, anticipate, and respond to it definitely does, because sometimes, awareness matters more than air consumption.

Beyond The Basics
Do I need to be React Right certified to sign up for this course?
- Yes. To earn your Diver Stress & Rescue certification, you’ll need a current SSI React Right (or an equivalent first aid & CPR certification).
- It makes sense, really; rescue doesn’t end when someone is out of the water. Knowing what to do until medical help arrives is just as important.
- If you don’t have it yet, don’t worry. You can literally complete the program alongside your course.
I am not Advanced Open Water certified. Can I do this course?
- Yes. You don’t need to be Advanced Open Water certified to take the Diver Stress & Rescue course
- What you do need is solid foundational skills, reasonable comfort in the water, and the ability to stay calm when things get a little… choppy.
- If you’re still fighting your buoyancy, we’d suggest sharpening that first. But if you’re steady, aware, and ready to think beyond yourself – you’re good to go.
Do I need to have a minimum number of logged dives before I sign up for this course?
- Not really. There’s no minimum number of logged dives required to sign up.
- But, we do recommend having at least 30 to your name.
- It is not a magic number; it simply means you’re likely to have the comfort, control, and confidence to stay calm and think clearly while handling realistic rescue scenarios.
How much time do I spend on this per day?
- Plan to spend the first half of the day with us & the Ocean
- There will be debriefing / theory sessions as well. Scheduled per mutual convenience of the student & the Instructor.
Where do I access my course material?
- On the SSI App – your forever dive buddy. Available on Android & iOS. Phones & tablets. Or even a good ol’ browser.
- Theory, logs, certifications cards…this is your diver flex app, essentially!
What is the Student-to-Instructor ratio for the course?
- 4:1. 4 students. 1 instructor.
- That means more attention, fewer flailing fins, and plenty of time for feedback where it matters most.
- But that doesn’t mean we won’t do the course with fewer students. There is always a batch finning!
